Inspired by Andy Warhol’s ideas of mass replication in art, I created this block painting to experiment with unstructured, improvised scenes with myself as the main character within this piece. While Warhol often employed mechanical techniques to mass-produce images of everyday objects and celebrities, my piece uses repeated patterns and elements to create a sense of rhythm with my identity. There is no order in my work, where randomness dominates to show my agency and spontaneity. Through block painting, I express a sense of casualness, with my unique swirls as background to add a personal touch to my identity as an artist and person. This series also reveals my inquiry into the authenticity of identity and representation. Among these nine images, which one is the real me? If all of the images are real, why can they be different at the same time?
